This year’s series of lectures of the Department of Design and Communication of FH JOANNEUM brings speakers, among others from Bratislava, Detroit, New York and Portugal, to Graz, to present and discuss different aspects of these trends by showing concrete examples.

This year’s month of design is a very special one, celebrating 10 years of “Designmonat Graz” by Creative Industries Styria who brought this festival to life.

For the last 10 years, the Ernst Mach Grant programme has been enabling students from all over the world to take a step into the unknown and complete an exchange semester or year at an Austrian university of applied sciences. Here are 5 stories from former grant holders.

An exciting and unique city. New approaches to the topic of ‘design’. A passion for detail and sustainable thinking. All of this awaits exchange students and lecturers at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, one of the best three design schools in the USA. Karl Stocker, head of the Information Design and Exhibition Design programmes at FH JOANNEUM, discusses the potential for new cooperation in a short interview.

Yogita Kuchankar is an engineering student studying Materials Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. She spent two months as a research intern at the Web Literacy Lab of FH JOANNEUM and would like to share the experience she had at our university.

After four months of work, the international team of software developers, designers and business students successfully finished KICKOFF Canvas products, the web based platform for project planning. The product KICKOFF Canvas is innovative tool that used Canvas business model and PRINCE2 method in project management.

In the framework of the Erasmus+ project GameHub the ZML-team organized a two days’ workshop on the topic of game based learning at FH JOANNEUM Graz. Opening the workshop Anastasia Sfiri pointed out: “we often believe that learning is serious and playing isn’t serious. Playing gives people freedom to fail, experiment and fashion identities, as well as freedom of effort and interpretation.”

‘To me the balance between life and work never exists. There is only life, and work is an extension to your personality.’ Being in the leadership team of the fortune 500 organization Kelly OCG, Mr. Strangas shared with us his take-away as being a „Master of International Management“ student at FH JOANNEUM in Graz, his thoughts to the rise of emerging markets and his philosophy of life in the interview.

Vor 15 Jahren stellten die Autoren des Cluetrain Manifesto fest, dass das Internet im Marketing und in der PR eine Revolution bedeutet. Ihre Hauptthese: Märkte sind Gespräche. Die Benutzerinnen und Benutzer des Netzes interessieren sich nicht für Botschaften, die von Firmen und Institutionen in die Menge geblasen werden. Sie interessieren sich für Gesprächspartner – für Menschen, die an ihnen Interesse haben.
